'Twas the Night Before Christmas:Parody

It was the night before Christmas and throughout the house
Chaos was brewing, shouts were about.
The family, adults and children abound,
Well, needless to say, they make quite a sound.
Colorful wrapping paper now litters the floor,
Now the kids are fighting, yelling “I want more!”

The remains of a feast now sit on the table.
The dishwasher's full, and no one is able,
To get off their butts and help with the dishes;
Whoever wants this damn job, I give them permission.
The evergreen tree is in danger of tipping,
And squashing the young ones, doing the flipping.

While most of the relatives are still sober,
A few of them are passed out, their faces drawn over.
Cards are being played, more yells and shouts,
As drunken uncle Earl lost a substantial amount.
Cursing and swearing are commonly seen,
But now the kids ask “hey, what does that mean?”

The dog just attacked the leftover turkey,
And I think I just heard the crash of the tree.
This whole night is out of control,
For it to be over, I’d gladly sell my soul.
Unfortunately, I can’t just get up and leave.
The party is here. What the hell was I thinking?

Staring out into the inky black sky,
My head hurts awfully and I can only sigh,
Trying to ignore the cacophony of yappy,
And concentrating on what was good and happy:
Dinner was delicious; the gifts were all great,
And it will soon be quiet, as bedtime is eight.

I can’t wait for tomorrow and for all this to end
And to my sore body and ears I can attend.
I do love my family, don’t get me wrong,
But tonight is being overly long.
Yes, tomorrow there will be absolute peace,
Merry Christmas to all, NOW SHUT YOUR FACES PLEASE!
